Small and Slow Tee
The quick fix compounds the problem. The large intervention disrupts what was already working. The system that grows slowly, with each step informed by the last, is the one still standing a generation from now.
This piece carries permaculture's principle small and slow solutions, paired with a verse from the Tao Te Ching, chapter 64, in James Legge's 1891 translation (public domain):
"The tree which fills the arms grew from the tiniest sprout." — Lao Tzu (traditional 6th c. BCE), classical Chinese philosopher; trans. Legge, 1891
The seedling above the soil line and the root system below it say what the principle means in practice: most of the work is invisible, underground, and patient. The part people see came last.
From the Roots & Thinkers series by Emogine — quiet pairings of permaculture's design principles with the public-domain voices that anticipated them.
